We have had some staffing changes recently .
Our administrator Irene, well known to most of you through her work at the surgery and involvement in the community in Longwood, is heading for pastures new, moving overseas in the coming weeks.
Irene has been a critical part of The Healthcentre since she joined us: her enthusiasm, work ethic, helpful nature and complete inability to say ‘I can’t’ meant that she found a solution to every obstacle that she encountered. During the Covid pandemic she worked mainly remotely, but her productivity was immense, and we simply could not have managed without her.
Filling her shoes, and taking on a completely new role of Practice Manager is Esther who has a background in banking and more recently in managing an optician’s practice. Esther has huge experience and is enthusiastic about joining the team of the Healthcentre.
As you all know, Dr McNamara and Nurse Barbara retired last year, after a long period serving the community of Longwood.
Since then, we have been joined by Nurse Sarah, who has become an integral part of the team, and has brought colour and laughter to the practice! She joins the legendary Nurse Mary, who needs absolutely no introduction to our patients.
Our nursing team has more recently been joined by Lorraine who is trained as a Health Care Assistant and Phlebotomist, and is also taking on the administration of our Chronic Disease Management programme. Lorraine will also be assisting our receptionists Carmel and Niamh.
We also have Midwife Caroline working with us on Thursday and Fridays: she will be doing antenatal care for our pregnant patients, and taking on some other duties .
And finally….
You may have seen a photograph in the Irish Times recently and thought ‘who would be crazy enough to jump into that filthy-looking water?’.
Well, I’m proud to say that it’s our very own Dr Reg van Wyk! He was completing the Red Bull Conquer the Cashel. He tells us that the water didn’t taste as bad as it looked, and he’s almost recovered from the trauma of the event now…
